Laughing Gas in the Delivery Room?

April 9, 2014 by amushro 21 Comments

Step back, everyone.

*blows dust off diploma*

A million years ago my parents paid big bucks for me to get a Journalism degree, and I put that degree to good use for about a year as a television reporter before I went back to school to be a teacher. Then I left that profession for the glamours life of a stay at home mom. Hmmmmm… I am beginning to see a pattern here. Anyway, this week I put that Journalism degree to good use when I wrote a story for Washington DC news station WTOP.

Laughing gas in the delivery room. Would you use it? Check it out and  click right here to read it. Be sure to scroll to the bottom for my story. Then come back and tell me if you what you think!

I use it at the dentist and it has very little effect, so I doubt it would even really work in labor.

I’ve never tried it, and I’m not sure if it would really work on labor pain or not. But my husband has used it at the dentist and thinks it is one of the most wonderful inventions of medicine….so I already know he would tell me to give it a try!

I have not tried it, but then back when I had my kids they just put a stick in your mouth and say bite down… (laughs hysterically) thats what my kids say.

Congrats on your accomplishments! Well…I would share with my hubby! When our daughter was born he could’ve used it more than me…thinking about that day…I think he would’ve given himself a few hits without even asking! 🙂

Not sure if you watch Duck Dynasty but they had an episode when their kids were put under laughing gas.

Laughing gas definitely doesn’t work on me! I doubt it would be handy during my labor. Interesting!

I had 3 c-sections so my pain management was definitely over the top compared to laughing gas. I’ve never experienced labor, but can only imagine that nitrous oxide wouldn’t be sufficient to dull the pain of childbirth. Maybe it would be a viable option for some?

My husband swears by laughing gas but he has never had to try it during labor LOL! Don’t know if I would want to try that!

I’ve never had laughing gas but I know labor was awful so not sure it would work? But hey, at that point, I would have tried anything!

I don’t think I have ever used laughing gas, but I have seen many YouTube videos of people making fools of themselves while coming off of it. HA!

I have never tried laughing gas but have heard that it is not used for pain control, only for anxiety.

I guess if it helps, it might be a better alternative to some other meds, but I prefer not to use anything in the delivery room. I would hate to be altered in any way and not remember things.

I had it at the dentist as kid. I remember laughing. Don’t think I would go for it in the delivery room though.

I would not use laughing gas in the delivery room. No problem with those who do, but it is not for me.
