Crazy Hair Day–Donuts and One Eyed Monsters

March 14, 2018 by amushro

We love a good spirit week around here—especially if it calls for Crazy Hair Day. Now to be fair, when we’re running late for the bus, my kids’ hair usually looks like it would fit right  on  Crazy Hair Day. However, for the actual day I got crafty before breakfast and was able to send the kids out the door with super rad hair that they absolutely loved. So they were thrilled and these fun styles took me just a few minutes to whip up. So here’s how I made the delicious donut hair and one eyed monsters.

First up–donuts! Start with a small paper plate and cut a small hole in the middle. You just need the hole to be wide enough to pull a ponytail through. With construction paper made a small circle and again cut the middle out. This will be your “icing.” Using a hot glue gun, attach lots of sprinkles. If you don’t have sprinkles, little pieces of colorful paper will work, too. Hot glue a few bobby pins to the bottom of your “icing.”  Pu your child’s hair into a ponytail and pull it through the paper plate. Then put their hair into a bun and  attach the “icing.” Boom–done. So easy and so stinking cute!

Now for the one eyed monster. Start by cutting pipe cleaners in half and hot gluing a googly eye on the end. Wrap the bottom of the pop cleaner around a bobby pin and place in  your child’s hair. You can twist and turn the pipe cleaners  into different directions to make them look extra wacky.

The Craziest Car Hacks that Actually Work

March 14, 2018 by amushro

You know that I love a good life hack, but with so many hacks floating around online, you have to wonder if they really work. So when it comes to taking care of your car, here’s eight crazy life hacks that actually work.

  • If you are always bumping your car door on the wall of your garage, or you are worried someone else will scratch your car by hitting the wall, cut a pool noodle in half and attach it to your wall with glue or another adhesive. Now when you open your car door while in your garage and the door gets too close to the wall, it will be cushioned by the pool noodle. Now the paint on your door will be intact every time you park in the garage.
  • If you are grabbing takeout or pizza and you are worried the food will be cold by the time you get home, turn the seat warmer on and place the takeout container or pizza box on your seat. The seat will get warm enough to keep your food nice and hot until you get home.
  • If you have a small scratch or chip in your paint and don’t want to pay to have it fixed, search for a nail polish that is similar in color. Paint a few coats of the nail polish over the scratch for a quick fix. This is a great option for red, black and silver cars.
  • If you want to remove a bumper sticker and don’t want to ruin the paint on your car, grab a newspaper. Start by dampening a sheet of newspaper and lay it over the leftover sticker. In about a 15 minutes, you will be able to easily and safely remove the sticker.

10 Ways to Keep Your Car Cleaner

March 13, 2018 by amushro

You spend a lot of time in your car, and while you would love for your vehicle to always have that new car look and smell-the reality is that life is messy and so is your car. So if you don’t have time to detail your car each and every week, you can try these 10 simple ways to keep your car cleaner.

1. Put cupcake liners in your cup holders to catch messes and spills. Then toss out the cupcake liner when it gets dirty. Silicone cupcake liners can be washed and reused and are stronger than paper liners.

2. Using a small sponge brush, clean out dirt and dust from your car vents. The brushes are super inexpensive and can be stored in your car for quick cleanup.

3. Dryer sheets are great for cleaning the grill of your car. Dirt, grime and bugs are no match for a dryer sheet. Also, leaving a few dryer sheets in your car will keep your vehicle smelling fresh and clean.

4. Coffee filters make great dashboard dusters. Store a few in your car for the times the inside of your car needs to be cleaned. Since there are no oils or cleaners being applied, you never have to worry about a greasy steering wheel or dashboard.

On busy nights when you are shuffling your kids to all of their activities, dinnertime can be tricky. Family Fun–Get Out and About this Winter

February 8, 2018 by amushro

Even though February is the shortest month of the year, it can sometimes feel like the longest month because of the cold weather and grey skies. Staying inside with your kids where it is toasty and warm is great-for a while. But eventually cabin fever sets in and you and your kids need to do something to break that cabin fever. If everyone has logged too many hours in front of their electronics and the TV, here’s six activities that are family friendly and the perfect cabin fever boredom busters.

1.      Plan a spring break trip with your kids. Let them help you research locations, find restaurants, and even plan the activities. You can even create a countdown to get everyone excited about the trip and every day, your kids will love counting down the time until you leave on your spring vacay.

2.       Use President’s Day to visit local historic attractions or museums. Many places will have scavenger hunts and lessons that you can incorporate while you visit. This means no extra work for you and everyone gets to learn something new!

3.       Find family friendly winter activities. From ice skating, skiing, or snow tubing, explore you town and get a break from being inside for a few outside adventures.
